Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, Chief Kingsley Nweke (Odaopou), has pledged to prioritise youth empowerment, agriculture, sports, technology and innovation if elected in the 2027 general elections.
He made the promise on Monday ,August 31,2026 at a press conference organised by the Odaopou Campaign Organisation at the Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi ,Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Enugu.
He said the people of Enugu East had an opportunity to end what he described as a longstanding pattern of political “selection” and freely choose their representative.
According to him, his representation would be centred on the interests of the senatorial district, with particular emphasis on creating opportunities for young people.
“What I intend to do is more of youth empowerment and engagement. If elected, it should be about the district — agriculture, sports, partnership, technology and innovation,” he said.
Nweke, who disclosed that he is involved in the hospitality business in the United States, said he had been consulting stakeholders ahead of the election but would continue to give priority to the views and interests of ordinary residents.
He also pledged to build on his previous community development efforts and ensure that the contributions of people in the district were not wasted.
“I’ve been involved in community development and I will increase the momentum when I get into the National Assembly,” he said.

The PDP candidate further expressed his desire to contribute to rebuilding the party in Enugu State, saying, “I wish to make PDP regain its glory in Enugu State.”
He also commended journalists for their role in defending democracy and pledged to work closely with the NUJ if elected.
Earlier in an opening remarks, the Director-General of the Odaopou Campaign Organisation, Prince Ogbodo, said Nweke’s candidacy offered the people an opportunity to elect someone whose community contributions predated his ambition for political office.
Ogbodo cited Nweke’s alleged sponsorship of community and cultural activities, including Coal Camp Carnival, New Haven Carnival, Abakpa League and Abakpa Peace Carnival, as well as empowerment and healthcare support initiatives.
He urged voters to assess candidates based on their contributions and impact on society rather than political calculations.
