Police arrest railway vandal, recover slippers in Bauchi

Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected railway vandal, Abubakar Sanusi, and recovered a consignment of vandalised railway slippers in Doya Quarters, Bauchi metropolis.


The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
Habib said the arrest followed credible intelligence received on August 17, 2026, at about 12:30am, concerning the vandalisation of railway infrastructure in the state capital.


According to him, operatives of the ‘A’ Division Township traced the stolen railway materials to a residential building in Doya Quarters, where the entire consignment was recovered and evacuated to the police station.


He said the operation was concluded at about 3:30am on August 18 with the arrest of Sanusi in connection with the crime.
The police spokesperson added that investigation was ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate allegedly involved in the vandalisation.


The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, warning that anyone found vandalising government property would be arrested and prosecuted.
The command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
