National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has says prospective corps members will no longer be mobilised for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The directive, contained in a public notice posted on the scheme’s official X handle on Monday, makes NERD clearance a compulsory requirement for all prospective corps members ahead of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ mobilisation exercise.
The NYSC urged eligible graduates to complete the clearance process early to avoid delays in mobilisation, warning that failure to obtain the clearance would prevent them from participating in the national service programme.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.
Reaffirming the directive, the NYSC added: that ,”NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although the scheme did not provide further details on the clearance process, the new requirement signals a stricter verification regime as preparations continue for the next orientation exercise.
The announcement comes shortly after the NYSC commenced mobilisation activities for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year and urged tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the orientation camp.
It also follows the scheme’s recent advisory cautioning prospective corps members against travelling at night to orientation camps. The NYSC advised them to break their journeys where necessary and lodge in safe locations or designated military and other security formations instead of travelling after dark.
The latest directives, according to the scheme, are aimed at strengthening the integrity of the mobilisation process while enhancing the safety of prospective corps members amid growing security concerns on Nigerian highways.
With mobilisation activities underway, eligible graduates are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the newly introduced NERD clearance, before reporting to their respective orientation caymps.
